What Are You Doing for National Wildlife Week?

There are a lot of celebratory weeks throughout the annual calendar, but National Wildlife Week just might be one of the easiest to celebrate. Seriously, all you need to do in order to celebrate this week (which starts today!) is to get outside.

The National Wildlife Federation has been holding National Wildlife Week since 1938, and it puts together several resources to help families and individuals get outdoors. If you’re looking to incorporate the outdoors into a school program, check out the Educator Activity Guide. And if you’re strapped for ideas to engage the family, check out the Family Activity Passport, which is chock full of a week’s worth of local animals and plants to watch for, tips for gardening with children, and games.

But here at Under Solen, we’ve got our own list of activities for celebrating.

Go on a trail run

Even if you live in an urban environment, trails are never that far away. So lace up the running shoes and plan a quick jaunt through the greenery.

Garden

It’s springtime, you ought to be prepping those raised beds anyway, so get out and get your hands dirty!

Plan an afternoon of frisbee

Gather your friends, find a park, pack the frisbee and go. Simple, fun and absolutely free!

Pack a picnic

Grab an extra sweater, fill up your reusable water bottle and extend your lunch hour to take time to eat outside.

Now go get wild!
